Metal Detectors Coming to OM

HCPSS has agreed to metal detectors

Following the incident in September where a 17-year-old student was charged with bringing a weapon into the school, Oakland Mills High School administration, in union with HCPSS officials, has decided to make a change.

Dr. Fink, our principal here at OM, has gotten metal detectors approved for the upcoming 2024 – 2025 school year and onwards. These metal detectors will be placed at all possible entrances and exits of the school to ensure the utmost safety of our students and staff.

During an interview with Dr. Fink, when asked if the metal detectors would ensure the safety of all students, he stated, “Of course, they will. It’s a tool to help. … Safety is our top priority here at OM.” According to Dr. Fink when asked if there will be consequences for those caught by the metal detectors, he states, “There will be a range of consequences, from helping the custodians clean after school to expulsion.”

Although students might not like the metal detectors, most administrators seem happy about them. Ms. Nash states, “Hopefully it will deter students.” Mr. McCaskill added, “Yes, we will be able to make the school safer.” Officer Agard, our school resources officer, stated, “It will be good for the school and will make it a safer place.”

Happy April Fool's Day!🦂
