OM Caught the Blues

A Blue Man Group Performance Recap

After years of trepidation, it finally happened. At midnight on March 19th, a few dozen Oakland Mills community members got together to witness the debut of the local junior chapter of the Blue Man Group, with the main draw being the familiar faces on stage. Despite their identities being common knowledge, they requested to stay anonymous during interviews.

Primarily made up of Oakland Mills High School students, the young performers mentioned having difficulty finding time to practice. “The main issue was trying to figure out how to arrange everything in a way that was both cost-effective and easy to transport due to us having to practice in various locations,” one anonymous member mentioned. “As we got closer to the show, our rehearsals lasted longer and longer. I kept falling asleep in my first period because I was just so tired all the time,” another anonymous member added. “At some point, we ran out of blue paint,” their anonymous manager admitted, explaining the noticeable lack of blue faces on stage.

Despite the budget limitations, the three-hour-long spectacle received rave reviews from attendees. OMHS English teacher Ms. Moore stated, “It was like the 2007 Latin Grammys all over again,” and Senior Vic Burch mentioned that the young performers were “better than Phil Collins.” The show consisted of several different musical segments and focused on audience participation, the stand-out part being the notably dangerous pyrotechnics display at the end of the show which nearly resulted in the death of one of the performers. Regardless, the group has stated that they “vow to return to the Columbia stage,” with future performances slated to occur sometime this summer.

Happy April Fool's Day!🦂
