The OM field hockey team finished the fall season with a record of 1-10-1. Their sole victory was against Glen Burnie High School, which they won 1-0. Sophomore Ashton Beauchamp scored the goal in that game.
Junior Nicole Benavidez-Rivera, a third-year varsity player, stated that the team has “improved a lot with their skills and techniques.” Also, she said that the team is more competitive, and many of their losses have been in close games. One thing about this field hockey team is they don’t quit, they play the best they can. The Junior captain said all the work they put in this season should carry over to next season and “we’ll be able to beat teams like Hammond, Northeast, Wilde Lake, and Howard.”
Northeast was supposed to be their last taste of the regular season; however, that game was canceled due to scheduling reasons. Northeast tied against OM earlier in the season with a score of 0-0.
OM had a playoff game versus Centennial High School, a Howard County opponent, in the first round. The Scorps were familiar with this opponent since they had previously faced CHS, a game that resulted in a 0-9 loss. On October 24th, OM suffered their final defeat to Centennial which sadly ended their season with a 1-11-1 including playoffs.
The field hockey team has five seniors: Brooklyn Kirby, Willow Romack, Taylor Chestnut, Isabella Hines, and Ava Daly. With the five seniors leaving this year, OM will have a very young team with tons of growth potential. Benavidez-Rivera said the team plans to “just play hard and compete and try to improve every practice.”
