Supernatural tv show review (Spoilers)

First Season – Season Two for a first time viewer

Supernatural is one of those shows that is addictive. The TV show Supernatural is in the genre of fantasy. The show has 15 seasons and can be found on Netflix or Amazon Prime. You’d probably be into Supernatural if you enjoy urban legends and sort of scary things, though a younger crowd could handle the content potentially. They also explain the lore of each urban legend that you could think of. So if you’re a mythology enthusiast, you’d totally vibe with it!

The writers and actors do a good job at making you actually care for the side characters. By giving them backstories that matter. Backstories that are tied back into what is happening in that episode. Also, how that backstory shapes that person and their actions.

The main idea of Season One focuses on Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) and Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki), who are trying to find their dad. In Season One, they mainly focus on ghosts for their main hunting trips, but other times, the adventure connects to other inhumane beings.

Things that’ll play into each season are how Dean and Sam act in situations. Dean, who is the oldest brother, often acts on his impulses and is more about hunting the nonhuman. Dean’s impulses include flirting with any woman he sees and finds hot. Well, Sam is more selective with his actions. Sam is the opposite of Dean. He’s someone who thinks everything through.

Season One is the lightest season out of the first two seasons. It has some very serious moments within the first season, but they have a great balance of them. In the 12th episode of season 1, Sam states, “We’re not gonna kill a human being, Dean. We do that, we’re no better than he is.” (Season 1, Episode 12) That’s the mortals that Sam has set for himself. These mortals exist because Sam sees the good in most people. Even when they do something bad. Sam still believes that they deserve the chance to live and get another chance.

Season Two deals with heavier topics such as the death of main characters, how people deal with grief, and the manipulation of grief. Season Two is when Dean and Sam’s main goal shifts from finding their dad to killing the demon that killed Jess, John, and their mom. Sam and Dean change their goals from solving any case. To still solve cases, but they are more focused on finding the demon that killed their parents. The show then delves into explaining Sam’s powers over others like him. These powers came from when Sam was a six-month-old baby, and the yellow eyed demon fed Sam some of his blood.

The beauty of Supernatural’s first two seasons is that it’s easy to follow. Especially when going into the lore and mechanics of the Supernatural world. Like when it introduces the crossroad demon and how John used it to save Dean’s life. Each episode is always action-packed, and they relate to real-life consequences of the actions that are shown in the show, which each character handles in their own way, so it’s not like every character is made of the same material.

Something anyone watching can agree with is that they all have a Dean or Sam in the others’ lives. A Sam is someone who is smart and makes you rethink all the decisions you make. Well, a Dean is someone who makes you take risks and doesn’t do the smartest thing. So, depending on which friend you are. It’s something that a viewer can see in these characters.

Supernatural is just one of those timeless shows, because you care about the plot and each character in the show. Which is why, if you are looking for an impactful show that will leave you speechless, Supernatural would be right for you.
