Is the COVID-19 pandemic making you anxious? Do you find it more difficult to focus on tasks you can excel in? Are you bored of staring at the same four walls? It’s time to get outside and go for a walk!
According to an article published by the Arthritis Foundation, walking helps to improve the function of the circulatory system and has been proven to weaken your chances of suffering from heart disease or any cardiovascular complication later on in life. Just by walking a mile or two a day, you lower your blood pressure by 11 points within 3 to 4 months.
Walking has been proven to be an effective way to lose weight. Studies have found that walking for half an hour can burn approximately 200 calories, which leads to dropping off some pounds within months. On top of that, it’s a really good mood brightener. Research has found that walking releases painkilling endorphins to the body and has been found to be a positive emotional side effect.
So get outside and go for a walk! Walk by yourself, with your friends, around your block, in your park’s pathway, or a trail. Walk anyway you please, BUT be careful! Try to walk in a condition that’s best for you. Also, bring something to drink, preferably a bottle of water, and wear weather-appropriate clothing to prevent any complications from your walk. Above all, try not to walk more than your body allows. Take frequent breaks, sit at a park bench and enjoy the weather. Have fun and stay safe! P.S., don’t forget to wear a mask…and keep your social distance.
