Our newest math teacher at OMHS
What do you think about being able to have a telepathic connection with your teacher? Oakland Mills High School’s newest math teacher, Mr. Mesiano, strongly supports the idea!Â
Matthew Mesiano moved to Howard County in 2022 but was born in New Jersey. Over a decade ago, he worked full-time as a musician and drummer in a studio before starting his math career. But why did a musician who loves songwriting choose to teach math? Mr. Mesiano cited that his passion for teaching math began when he started tutoring people and helping them with math questions. Afterward, he graduated from Ramapo College in 2019 after obtaining both his math degree and teaching certificate. After teaching for three years in New Jersey, he applied to Oakland Mills High School this year. Now, you can find his face in room 605 every 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th period teaching Geometry and Precalculus GT.
Moving to a new environment is not a piece of cake, since it can be challenging to adjust to a new system and new culture. Mr. Mesiano, however, feels that our Oakland Mills High School community is very positive, friendly, and helpful! He feels welcome, and the overall cleanliness and brightness of the school helps him stay fully energized.
When asked about his vision for 10 years from now, Mr. Mesiano, who enjoys writing songs, watching ice hockey, and playing with our marching band, wishes to still be able to teach in Howard County. He said he looks forward to attending any school events this year since he lives nearby. Moreover, he aims to make his math class more enjoyable by exploring new activities and teaching methods. He mentioned that if he could have a superpower, he would pick telepathy to prevent miscommunication within our community. Let’s strive to ensure Mr. Mesiano achieves his goal this year and is happy with his decision to come teach at OM!
