hOMecoming 2023

A look at the week’s festivities

Oakland Mills had their 50th anniversary Homecoming week starting with spirit week from October 6th to the 13th, to then having the Homecoming game and dance on October 14th. Spirit week was fun and lively from the very first day, Teachers vs. Students. This consisted of teachers wearing hoodies and being late to class to students wearing wigs and having interesting voices. The second day was anything but your age day. This was done by teachers wearing pjs and students wearing beards. Wednesday was Barbie Day which had people in all sorts of Barbie-inspired outfits. There were teachers and students alike with pink outfits that represented different Barbies. On Thursday, Decades was the theme. This was when you dressed as any decade. This day had people dressed up as people from the 1600s to the early 2000s. Friday, of course, was class colors day, where each grade dressed up in the color of their class. Oakland Mills also celebrated their annual class hallway decoration competition followed by the pep rally. Wednesday the 11th, OM had their powderpuff flag football game. Seniors won 36-0 against the juniors. Saturday, the 14th, was the homecoming varsity football game against Atholton High School. Oakland Mills won the game with a final score of 27-20. Later that evening, it was finally Homecoming night. The evening started at 7:00pm for the indoor dance. This was new for all students because it hasn’t been indoors since 2020. This week was a great celebration for the 50th year anniversary and really brought the cOMmunity together.
