Top 5 Things To Do

Everybody gets bored once in a while and has a tough time deciding what they want to do. Well, to make sure you are not bored over your winter break, I went around and asked your fellow peers at OM what their favorite activities and places to go over winter break are. 

A popular answer from students at OM was that they enjoy watching Christmas movies. Many students said they like to sit inside on cold days and watch movies, typically Christmas-themed ones. This is probably a go-to for most people because it is always nice to be snuggled up in a blanket while watching a movie during the holidays. Check out Netflix or the Hallmark channels for plenty of holiday-themed options. 

Another thing you could do when you are bored during winter break is go outside and play in the snow – that is if we have enough snow this season. It is never a bad idea to detach from your screens once in a while and go outside and have fun in the snow. You can build snowmen, have snowball fights, go sledding, and build snow forts if it snows. 

If you’re bored and have nothing to do in the house, you can always go out with your friends to an ice skating rink. This is a great option for when you want to get out of the house and spend time with people. You can go with your friends, family, or whoever you would like to spend time with. Even if you don’t know how to ice skate, this could be a time you learn and just enjoy creating new memories. 

Another fun thing you can always do is go and drive through the Christmas lights show at Merriweather. This is a good idea to do on a relaxing night with whoever and just enjoy watching the beautiful lights from the comfort of your car.

The last thing I would recommend to do over this winter break is to just spend time with your friends and family. This was also a very popular response at OM not just from your peers but also from the staff members. Mr. Loyola, a Social Studies teacher here at OM, said, “What I like to do over winter break is spend time with my family.” Winter break might be one of the best times to reconnect with people, especially because during school you can get so busy that you do not have enough time to hang out and spend time with those you care about. 

If you ever find yourself stuck on what to do over break, just consider these options to pass the time. Even if you have done all of these things, you can always just spend the break relaxing, recharging, and getting ready for 2024!
