Hip Hop Fish & Chicken No Longer Coming to Village Center by Ryan Malinowski

Baltimore-based fish and chicken restaurant to be replaced by vegan juice bar

The village center offers our community a central place to run a quick errand or grab a quick bite to eat. Our dining options were to expand this summer with the addition of a Hip Hop Fish & Chicken chain, a new choice that excited many OM students. Unfortunately, the deal with Hip Hop Fish & Chicken fell through, and now the building will be occupied by a new vegan juice bar: Juiced!

The up-and-coming fried chicken and fish location was bought out by Juiced right before Hip Hop Fish & Chicken’s grand opening. Formerly, the location was Little Caesars, which moved to Long Reach this past summer, but the building has been empty ever since.

The reception on the new establishment has been mixed. Some people are excited about a new, diverse option in the village center. “I’m so excited that I have more options for myself. Dunkin doesn’t offer me many health benefits,” said vegan Senior Rachel Coleman.

Conversely, there have been various posts online from community members saying that they will boycott Juiced so they go out of business. “We need to stand our ground and not have this lame ‘juice bar’ take advantage of us and buy out a place that people would actually enjoy. Who wants a juice bar? Who even drinks juice?” @c0lumb1a_ch1ck3n.fan stated on Instagram.

Juiced has responded to these statements by saying, “We opened this location to cater to clients who recently moved into the area. So as long as our clients are still here and we have a good relationship with them, Juiced isn’t going anywhere.” This statement came from Eric Barker, the social media manager and CEO of Juiced.

Regardless of what side of the debate you are on, it looks like Juiced is coming to stay. The OM study body will be able to get discounts on their popular smoothie and juice choices. Juiced even sent us a coupon for their grand opening this summer.

Happy April Fool's Day from OM's seniors!

  1. is this actually true cause me and my family were very excited to have hip hop open it’s an affordable option for all of us opening a juice bar with limited options and probably expensive pricing doesn’t make any sense put that in the mall
