Meet the newest members
This 2024 school year calls for the new Freshman class of 2028’s SGA (Student Government Association). After a few weeks of campaigning, the election ended, and the roles were chosen! We would like to introduce OMHS’s class of 2028 SGA members.
Class of 2028’s new President Jojo Knight is a natural-born leader! Before coming into high school, Knight attended Oakland Mills Middle Sch ool where he was seen as a leader by his peers. In high school, he wanted to be a part of something that had an impact on the school and its community. He has enjoyed public speaking since he grew up speaking at places such as church and special events. He’s a very courageous person who aims for high goals in life and explains that he would like to go to Morehouse College after high school to study Political Science. After college, he would like to be a preacher where he can deliver sermons and important messages to those who need them. Knight would like the class of 2028 to know, “As a person who wants to make the school better, I’ll be dedicated to making the class of 2028 better for the next four years and beyond. I want to stay involved with things in school and be a mentor and example for my community.”
Class of 2028’s new Vice President is Priscilla Darko. Priscilla grew up in Ellicott City and went to Thomas Viaduct Middle School where she was a part of the debate club. Before coming to OM, she knew she wanted to be a part of the student government since she was influenced by her older sister, Shannelle Darko (who was 2026’s class President during her freshman year). To Priscilla, being Vice President means that she will take a role in the school and make sure everyone’s voices are heard. She doesn’t want 9th graders to feel like they’re at a disadvantage but wants them to feel like their voice is just as equal as every other class. The impact she wants to make is to make sure 9th graders’ experience is more enjoyable, and for her classmates to experience what high school is all about. She explains, “My personal strengths are that I’m outgoing, outspoken, and really friendly as well as approachable. So, it’s very easy for people to communicate with me.” She wants the class of 2028 to know that she will put the effort in to make sure everyone will be heard and that she is determined to help her class achieve all their goals. Darko also mentioned that she would love to try for the executive board.
Now introducing the class of 2028’s Secretary, Naomi Osborne. Osborne grew up in Oakland Mills her whole life, attending both Lake Elkhorn (where she was 7th grade class representative), and Oakland Mills for middle school where she was able to get to know many people. As a freshman, she was able to make the varsity girl’s soccer team and has been playing the sport for about 10 years. She knew she wanted to be a part of the school’s government before coming into high school seeing inspiration from individuals like Jake Favero, and Rohan Warrier. Osborne wants to make an important impact on those around her; she wants to be a voice for everyone and make school more enjoyable and better environment for her peers to learn. She plans on trying for the executive board at some point in her high school career, but as of right now, she wants everyone to know, “I’ll be giving my full dedication and effort!”
Introducing Class of 2028’s Representative, Rozelyn Sarfo. Sarfo is Ghanaian and enjoys playing volleyball and reading. Being a representative to her means being able to speak for her grade and school-wide, and having a community she can involve herself with. She believes she is great at formulating clear thoughts and getting herself organized for public speaking. She wants to also try for the executive board in her high school career, probably going for the role of Liason. Rozelyn wants the 2028 class to know, “ I’m always open and down to hear something if you want to say something. And I’m always willing to help out. You all should also expect me to be consistent with what I’m saying.”
If you’re a part of the 2028 Freshman Class, make sure you get to know your class’s SGA! Be involved to create a voice for your class and make a difference.
