Step into the magic of the holiday season by attending Oakland Mills High School’s 15th annual WBAL Concert for Kids! Expect to hear holiday classics like “Sleigh Ride,” while being immersed in newer pop music. This concert is put on by the entirety of the Oakland Mills’ fine arts departments– Band, Choir, Dance, Guitar, Orchestra, Piano, and Theater –and features performances from teachers.

On December 7th, audience members will have the opportunity to attend two shows. The two shows– the matinee and the evening pops –occur at 1 pm and 7 pm. The hour-long matinee takes place first and is geared towards younger ages. The evening pops is an extended version of the matinee, geared towards all, lasting around an hour and a half. The matinee costs $10 for adults and costs $5 for children (12 & under). The evening pops show costs $15 for adults and $10 for children (12 & under).

Last year, the concert raised $7,000 and has raised over $112,000 since it started at OM. Funds from this concert go towards the WBAL Radio Kids Campaign which seeks to support kids in the area with a lower economic status. The concert poses a great opportunity to help those in need while supporting Oakland Mills’ performers and hearing beautiful music. “It is such a big event that has all the fine arts together and it is something that is very intertwined that you don’t see often. It is a good way to support us– the fine arts department –while supporting a cause that is bigger than OM,” Senior Dance Company member, Mia Oliver, shared.

In addition to music, personalities from WBAL radio will be there doing readings in between songs. To top it off, Santa will make an appearance and the kids in the audience will get to join him on stage to read a story. “The most memorable part for me was Santa’s entrance and the kids going on stage. It was super sweet,” said Senior Lakshmi Kannikanti. The Fine Arts Boosters (FAB) will also be selling concessions in the cafeteria at the start of the show and during the evening pops intermission. FAB donates all profits from concession to the Kids Campaign.
