Welcome Mr.Williams!

Introducing Mr.Williams Our New Principal At OMHS

Oakland Mills is starting the 2025-2026 school year off strong. With the new year, we would like to formally introduce our new principal, Mr. Williams, to Oakland Mills!

Coming all the way from Brooklyn, New York, Mr. Williams is excited for us to get to know a little more about him. Having grown up in both New York and Calvert County, Maryland, he went to a couple of different schools. He attended New York P.S., I.S. 308, and then Calvert High School in Southern Maryland. He continued on to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for his freshman year, then transferred to Bowie University for his sophomore year, and finally, to Towson University for his junior and senior years, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. As a child, Mr. Williams expressed that he had many trials and tribulations along the way, but has warm memories of his time in New York and the summer times of his childhood.

Before Oakland Mills, Mr. Williams worked at Woodlawn Middle School as a sixth-grade math teacher. He was soon promoted to Assistant Principal at Woodlawn High School, which he left to come to Howard County. He first worked at Mount Hebron as an Assistant Principal before moving to Homewood Center, and now he’s here at OM! High school education was not Mr. Williams’ original plan, but the opportunity came for him to work at a middle school (though his degree was in elementary education), and he decided to take the job in sixth grade! But soon, Mr. Williams thought to himself: “What’s the next adventure?” “What’s the next thing I can do?” Soon, he was offered a position at a high school, and has been in high school education ever since! Mr. Williams has always wanted to be a teacher, as he enjoys having an impact and seeing young people be successful. He loves the thought of seeing students achieve every goal, and appreciates his position in their education. Mr. Williams felt like leadership was a great position for him, but he sometimes wishes he had stayed in the classroom a little longer. Overall, he is grateful for the opportunity he was given to move into leadership. Mr. Williams feels as though hard work is one of his strongest qualities. With dedication and consistency, he says, “anything is possible. You have to be willing to put in the effort, be consistent with it. So I truly believe it’s obtainable for anyone that’s willing to go after it.”

Mr. Williams wants the Oakland Mills staff to know that he is here for the right reasons. He will have their back no matter what and plans to move forward with the students’ interests in mind.

Some quotes that he lives by are:

“To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late, and to be late is to not show at all.” “Good, better, best, never let it rest, until your good becomes your better, and your better becomes your best.”

“Watch your thoughts, they become your words, watch your words, they become your actions, watch your actions because they become your habits, watch your habits, because they become your character, and watch your character, because it becomes your destiny.”

“Know better, do better.” Right now, you are in a phase in your life where you do know better, so it’s important to lead by that always!

For his time here at Oakland Mills, Mr. Williams is excited about all the student activities. He wants to be in the students’ space a little bit more, which includes attending athletic and artistic events. He explains, “feeling the school pride, the school spirit, makes me happy, actually, the first time I heard the marching band, it gave me goosebumps.” He’s excited to feel that sense of home here in our school, as he’s “Looking forward to all of the positive things!”

If you see Mr. Williams in the hallway, don’t hesitate to approach or talk to him! You can find him in the office or around the school, but make sure to give him a warm welcome hOMe.
