Mill Meals

The Good, The Bad, The Greasy

Let’s be real: school lunch is a gamble. Some days you win big with a surprisingly good slice of pizza, and some days you’re stuck with mystery meat that could double as a doorstop. So, I decided to taste-test a week’s worth of Oakland Mills cafeteria classics and give you the truth, no sugar-coating (except maybe on the cookies).

Below is what I ate each day and my honest, respectful reviews.

Monday, November 10th – Chicken patty, fries, & an apple

A good, simple classic. The chicken patty was crispy and juicy. I put tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, ketchup, and mayo on it, and it was good. The fries were solid. I do wish they seasoned them in some type of way, but it’s okay, and the apple balanced things out. 8/10.

Tuesday – Walking taco

The contrast of the beef, jalapeños, sour cream, salsa, and cheese was like a mixture of salty and fresh food, basically everything good in one bag. This is easily my favorite lunch they serve. 9/10.

Wednesday – Pepperoni pizza

The pizza was not terrible. I personally prefer my crust a little more fluffier, and it didn’t really have a cheese pull, just very simple, not my personal favorite. Still edible. 6.5/10.

Thursday – Blossom chicken, rice, & an apple

Surprisingly, really good. The chicken had a sweet General Tso-like flavor, the rice wasn’t dry, and the apple made it feel like a balanced meal. Definitely my second favorite this week. 8/10.

Friday – Turkey wrap & fries

Pretty decent way to end the week. The wrap was fresh enough. I do wish the wrap wasn’t wheat, though, because it plays a part in the flavor, but it was still okay, and the fries were… fries (always reliable). 7.5/10.

A Big Thank You

Before anything else, I want to say thank you to the Oakland Mills lunchroom staff.

You all work hard every day, prepping food early in the morning, serving hundreds of students, and doing it with patience and kindness. Even when students are tired, picky, or in a rush, you always show up for us. We appreciate the meals you make, the effort you put in, and the time you give to keep our school running. Thank you for everything you do.
