On April 28th, 2016, the Dallas Cowboys had their fourth pick in the draft. The Cowboys was in need of a starting running back. In the first round, “the Cowboys drafted a very talented running back”, acording to NFL.com Ezekiel Elliott who received the Offensive MVP award for both the 2015 Sugar Bowl and the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship Game in college.The Dallas Cowboys also drafted Dak Prescott in the fourth round as a backup to Tony Romo, the Cowboys quarterback. Dak was also a star in college. According to Fox Sports, he was a recipient of the Conerly Trophy twice an award given annually to the best college football player in the state of Mississippi by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. According to NFL.com, he also was an First Team All-SEC twice. The Cowboys original starting quarterback Tony Romo was unable to start in the 2016 regular season after suffering a compression fracture to the L1 vertebra in his back during the Cowboys’ third preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks.The injury placed the duties of the team’s starting quarterback Dak Prescott. According to NFL.com, the Cowboys owner Jerry Jones initially said Tony Romo will be the starting quarterback when he returns, but Dak’s winning ability and his leadership forced Jerry Jones to changed his mind. Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott led the cowboys to a 9-1 record after losing their first game by one point to the New york Giants. Eli Manning, the starting quarterback for the Giants threw for three touchdowns and came away with a 20-19 win. After that loss, the Cowboys have been unstoppable, winning nine straight games with a rookie quarterback and a rookie running back.
On Thanksgiving Day, the Cowboys and the Redskins faced off in a divisional matchup. The game had a back and forth feel, the Cowboys held the Redskins to 30 points, and eventually beat them 31 to 26. Their winning run continued the following weekend with a 17-15 win over the Minnesota Vikings. The Cowboys will have a chance to continue their 11 game streak against the New York Giants on Sunday, December 11th.
