In their first round of MPSSAA playoffs––which would ultimately decide whether or not their season ends––the Oakland Mills Scorpions were faced against Marriotts Ridge, whom they had just beaten in their prior game on senior night. The game went into two periods of overtime, which resulted in a thrilling 83-77 victory for the Scorpions.
Despite the final scoreland, the Scorpions went into the half trailing the Mustangs by five points, with a total score of 23-18. They eventually took the lead in the 4th quarter, but still ended up in a tie game of 55-55 after regulation time. A intense, high scoring period of overtime wouldn’t be enough to decide the game, as the score was still tied after a tense 1st period overtime. However, nearing the end of double overtime, the scorpions managed to come out on top of their opponent, winning the game by a lead of six points.
Scoring for the Scorpions was led by Jordan Hopkins, who scored a record high of twenty-eight points. People who also scored were Robert Burgess (14), Ke’von Simpson (11), and Brian Wheelock (10). The Mustangs were led by Luke Ingersoll and Brandon Held, each scoring fourteen points by the end of the match.
After a long and hard fought bout against Marriotts Ridge, Oakland Mills advance in the 2A Regional playoffs. They played top seeded century on Tuesday, who are on a winning streak of eighteen games.
