Hello Mrs. Kambic!

A New Look into the World of Art

Art is everywhere around us: on walls, on clothing, and even on social media. But have you ever thought that you could create art yourself? Have you ever wanted to draw a character from a show or paint a landscape? Well, now you can with OM’s new art teacher, Mrs. Kambic! Mrs. Kambic is Oakland Mills’ newest art teacher, and she is thrilled to be part of the community. She teaches Art 1 and Art 2 and is excited to work with new students this year. Before teaching art in Columbia, Mrs. Kambic taught gymnastics in Baltimore. She grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, and continues to live there with her husband. She came to OM in search of a new experience that would allow her to work with young people, share her passion for art, and inspire future generations. Mrs. Kambic previously taught at Gilford Park and continues to teach there in the afternoons. Teaching helps sharpen her “art senses” and “encourage her perspective to grow and change as she meets new brilliant-minded students.” As she developed as an educator, she found a new home at OM. She remarked on how “beautiful the art is” and said she “loves the inspiration of the windows letting so much sunlight into her classroom.” Kambic first discovered her love of teaching through gymnastics, where she developed a passion for instructing and helping others. This experience eventually led her to where she is today! Her love of art began as far back as she can remember because both of her parents were artists. Her father was a sculptor and social worker, while her mother was a graphic designer and painter. She draws inspiration from both of them, and their artistic styles continue to influence her work today. Outside the classroom, Mrs. Kambic enjoys practicing aerial silks. Since the beginning of her teaching career, she has viewed aerial silks as a beautiful art form that requires tremendous skill. She spends her free time developing her abilities and practicing in the air. “If I wasn’t a teacher, I would likely be part of the circus,” she said. When she is not performing 100 feet in the air or painting the next Mona Lisa, Mrs. Kambic enjoys taking walks with her husband and dining out with friends. Her favorite type of food is Greek, and The Great Greek Cafe is one of her favorite places to eat. Mrs. Kambic is a caring and curious person who is excited to explore the OM community and meet her new students. If you see her in the hallway, be sure to give her a warm welcome to OM!
