OM Boys Varsity Update

The 2019-2020 basketball season has been a solid year for our boys’ varsity team. They are currently the best team in the county. The team got off to a slow start losing their first two games in close ones to Joppatowne (46-49) and Howard (61-63). After those games, the team started to turn things around by going on an eleven game winning streak. Their two biggest wins came against Long Reach (83-49) and Catonsville (93-41).

This year’s boysโ€™ basketball team is made up of seniors: Damien Hopkins, Truth Norton, Kemari Simpsons, Ahmed Diaby, and Jordan Abraham. The team also includes juniors: Barry Evans, Stevie Jackson, Tyler Miles, Joe Thompson, Otis Gray, Josh Ndiritu, Kiyon Pitts, and sophomore Judson Lincoln. The top performance from this season was the overtime thriller against Glenelg in a 75-73 win. In this game, DJ Hopkins led the team with 36 points and the game-winning free throw. This ended up being a career-high for him as he scored the team’s final 11 points. Along with the career day, Hopkins also won Howard County Player of the Month for December.

Senior guard, Truth Norton, won player of the week for January 18. He led the team in scoring in all three games against Catonsville, Hammond, and Mt. Hebron, averaging 29 points per game. In the game against Catonsville, Norton scored a career-high of 30 points including five three-pointers. He then scored 29 points in back to back games against Hammond and Mt.
