Meet Mr. White, OM’s Newest AP – By: Kylee Hoffman and Jada Fowler

Have you met the new, calamari-loving, track and field watching, 10th-grade assistant principal, Mr. White? Mr. White does not only want to be our educator, but he also intends to be a support system and friend to the students of OM.

Mr. White attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) where he majored in Elementary Education for five years. After graduating, he split his time between being a substitute teacher and being a mental health counselor for adults in and around the Pittsburgh area for a year. He became an educator because of his own teachers, to inspire the young, but also to give back to the community. Mr. White then moved to Maryland to receive his Master’s degree in school counseling from the University of Maryland College Park.

After receiving his Master’s degree, Mr. White worked as a school counselor in both Prince George’s County and Baltimore City before transferring to work here in Howard County. He started at Reservoir High School for six years before coming to OM to work as our new assistant principal.

Now, even though Mr. White is an educator, he still likes to do some fun things like traveling with friends and family, catching up on Netflix movies, and watching football and the Olympics.

Mr. White will always be there for his students and staff members. His biggest goal this year is to build connections and relationships with everyone in the building. He says that building connections with the staff, the students, and the OM community is the key to building mutual trust. He does not want to make changes to places where changes do not need to be made. He also doesn’t feel that OM is anything like the negative rumors. In fact, Mr. White sees OM as any other Howard County school.

If you ever need someone to talk to or just some basic help with anything school related, you can feel free to reach out! Mr. White will email times and codes to the 10th-grade students when he is available. The meeting code will be OMHSWHITE. He said, “Whenever in doubt, ask Mr. White.” When we all go back, you can be sure to find him in the hallways and make sure to say hi!
