All-Star Game Changed

The 2021 MLB, (Major League Baseball) all-star game was planned to happen on July 13th in Atlanta, Georgia. This was going to be big for Atlanta because they had just opened their new stadium SunTrust Park. But the MLB put a pause to the All-Star game being in Atlanta after Georgia officials put more restrictions on voters. The MLB and Commissioner Robert Manfred came out a few days later to tell the media that the All-Star game would be moved to another city due to the recent bill that had been passed. The Commissioner would later explain why he would be moving the all-star game saying,  “the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport.”

After this announcement, some people praised the Commissioner and the MLB for their efforts and what they had done, while others that questioned this decision. After this decision, the Braves came out with a statement saying, “This was neither our decision nor our recommendation and we are saddened that fans will not be able to see this event in our city. The Braves organization will continue to stress the importance of equal voting opportunities and we had hoped our city could use this event as a platform to enhance the discussion. Our city has always been known as an uniter in divided times and we will miss the opportunity to address issues that are important to our community…. “.

After all of this the MLB needed to find a new home for the All-Star game. Many mayors, governors, and other politicians all went to social media to try and convince the Commissioner to bring the All-Star Game to them. Many people speculated that the All-Star Game would go to the Los Angels Dodgers because they were supposed to hold the All-Star game last year but with the season being so short and covid there was ultimately no way they could fit one in. But the Colorado Rockies was given the go-ahead to hold the 2021 All-Star Game. This will be the second time the Rockies will hold an All-Star game, the last time was in the 1998 season.
