Dune is a science fiction/adventure movie that came out on October 22nd, 2021, starring Timothee Chalamett and Zendaya. The movie is a bit lengthy at 2 hours and 35 minutes. For an over two-hour-long movie, it wasn’t as dull as others that are longer than the average film.
Dune focuses on the main protagonist, Paul Atreides, who along with his family wants to conquer another planet. To Paul and his family, they need to conquer this planet because it is a desert planet that has rare substances that they want to have control over. Dune shows the process they go through to achieve their one and only goal. Some people have speculated that Dune has some type of connection to Star Wars, and although the plot might have some scenes and details that look related, Dune has no formal connection to Star Wars at all.
Dune was interesting and had many scenes that grabbed my attention, although some scenes were not as engaging due to lack of action. Some plot lines were not super well explained, but overall, the story was captivating. Dune had a couple of loopholes and some unanswered questions, but it was different from any other movie I have watched before. As I watched it, I would understand more about the little details that I missed from other scenes in the movie. The story ended without a cliffhanger by answering many of the questions that the audience had throughout the movie. There was action towards the climax and there were some shocking events that happened throughout the story.
Dune has become a great hit with an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 90% audience/public score. The movie did so well that the directors along with the producers are already working on Dune 2. Timothee Chalamet announced the second movie on his Instagram only four days after Dune was released in theaters.
In my opinion, this movie was very good. If I had to rate it out of 10, I would give it an 8 because Dune was interesting and I enjoyed the movie. There were genuine dynamics between very well-written characters. Both Zendaya and Chalamet gave dramatic performances that really developed their characters’ personalities. If you would like to check Dune out for yourself, it is still in theaters or on HBO Max.
