Former OM Alumni comes hOMe as Teacher and Coach
If you take a walk down the science hallway, you will most likely see one of Oakland Mill’s newest teachers, Ms. Grandfield! Located in room 705, Ms. Grandfield teaches Earth and Space Science as well as Biology GT. She also coaches girls junior varsity soccer here at OMHS.
In 2009, Ms. Grandfield graduated from Oakland Mills. She then attended Millersville University which is located in Millersville, Pennsylvania. There, she played NCAA division II soccer while studying to eventually earn two degrees! Ms. Grandfield has a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology, and a Bachelors of Science degree in Athletic Training. In addition to those two degrees, she also minored in chemistry. It is safe to say that Oakland Mills is so very lucky to have such an experienced and amazing teacher such as Ms. Grandfield.
Before she became a teacher, Ms. Grandfield worked as a scientist in a pharmaceutical lab for a couple of years. She then decided to get her teaching certification and later became the great teacher that she is today. Ms. Grandfield started teaching science classes for 7th graders in a middle school in Pennsylvania. Alongside teaching, she began coaching girls high school soccer at Lampter-Strasburg High School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Outside the classroom, Ms. Grandfield is very active. She loves to exercise, spend time with her family and fiancé, cook, and go on walks. As being one of the coaches here at OMHS, she loves to spend her time coaching and making her players better every day.
After spending time in Pennsylvania teaching and coaching, Ms. Grandfield decided to come back to Maryland. When she got the job here at Oakland Mills, she received an email from our principal and her former 10th grade biology teacher, Dr. Fink, that said “welcome hOMe!”. Ms. Grandfield said that she felt so excited and happy to be back here and that it is so great to make a full circle and come back hOMe.
We are so excited to welcome another great teacher and coach into our amazing community. Welcome hOMe, Ms. Grandfield!
