Last year, I was deciding on classes to take for my senior year, but I wasn’t really sure about what I wanted to take. So, I went around asking for class recommendations and David Land, a former student taking journalism, told me the class would be a great idea. At first, I thought that it would be really boring, but I put it down anyway without expecting much from the class. I think my hesitation was because I was nervous since my writing skills aren’t the best compared to most students. I wasn’t excited to take the class and the class being online made it seem even harder for me.
On the first day, I realized the class actually was not bad. The teacher, Ms. Moore, was really nice and she made the class very interesting for me and my peers. Even though we were able to pick our own topics, she was still able to encourage us with new ideas and ways to improve our articles. Every week, I would find myself excited, thinking of what I wanted to write for my next article. This class has helped me throughout this year because it allowed me to relax and it isn’t as stressful as my other classes, such as Calculus. I believe that Journalism has allowed me to become more confident in my writing and I wish I was able to continue taking it again next year. I regret not taking this my freshman year and I hope I can encourage others to look into journalism. It may seem boring, but you never know unless you try it.
Overall, I’m glad I decided to take this class for my senior year. My last year of high school wasn’t the best, but I think Journalism made it a lot better. Knowing my last day of high school is coming up, I can’t stop thinking about how much I’m going to miss my teacher and peers.
