Welcome back hOMe, Coach Trevor Shea!

Soccer legend and son of famous Don Shea returns to OMHS as teacher and coach!

This year, the Oakland Mills High School community is welcoming back Coach Trevor Shea as a new teacher AND coach! Coach Trevor Shea is the son of the very famous Don Shea, who retired last year from teaching social studies and coaching the boys varsity soccer team here at Oakland Mills for over 35 years. Trevor Shea plans to continue the legacy that his father created by taking the role of head coach for the boys varsity soccer team, as well as teaching special education here at OM.

Coach Trevor Shea attended Oakland Mills High School and graduated in 2001. During his time here, he won three soccer state championships. He then went onto college and played Division I soccer at James Madison University. Unfortunately, he suffered an injury during his time at JMU, but that led him to a different path. Coach Shea participated in a coaching internship which sparked his interest in coaching in the future.

Before he came back hOMe, Coach Shea was a special education and inclusion earth and space science and biology teacher at Hammond High School. He taught inclusion English during his time at Hammond as well. Shea was always interested in teaching; however, when he began the coaching internship in college, his interest in teaching grew. Both of his parents and his sister were teachers which made him want to teach even more.
In addition to teaching, Coach Shea has vast experience in coaching soccer and lacrosse. Shea has his B coaching license from U.S. Soccer, therefore he is a very advanced coach that will greatly benefit the boys soccer program. He started coaching OMHS boys junior varsity lacrosse and soccer teams in 2012 up until 2016. Then, Coach Shea moved over to Wilde Lake High School to take the head coach position for the boys varsity soccer team as well as the assistant coaching position for the boys varsity lacrosse team, and eventually took the spot as head coach. During that time, the boys varsity soccer team won the 3A State Championship under his coaching. Outside of coaching OMHS sports, Shea is the pool coach for the Maryland Olympic Development program for boys aging from U16-U17. His U17 team won the Eastern regional Championship this past year. He has coached for the MSYSA (Maryland State Youth Soccer Association) since he graduated from JMU. It is safe to say that Coach Trevor Shea has outstanding experience in coaching, and we are very happy and fortunate to have such a great leader for our boys soccer program.

In the Oakland Mills community, most people know who Don Shea is. He is well known for his accomplishments as the former head coach of the OMHS boys varsity soccer team as well as the impacts that he made as a social studies teacher during his time here. Coach Trevor Shea has had an amazing role model to look up to and is so grateful to have the opportunity to come back hOMe to continue the legacy that his father created over 35 years ago. He also wants to improve the program in any way that he can so that it continues to achieve success and be an opportunity for students to learn the game of soccer, be competitive, and have a positive extracurricular experience… just as his father did in previous years.

Overall, it is very safe to say that we are so excited and lucky to have such an amazing teacher and coach come back hOMe and make such great impacts on our community. So, welcome hOMe, Coach Trevor Shea!
